Forge Venue presents:
Global Sounds
Friday 8 June @ The Forge, London
Lush, funky, grooving and all perfectly formed, Korasong Radio’s set promises an uplifting evening for all connoisseurs of quality song. Korasong Radio have gone back to their musical roots: English, Gaelic and American folk, Gambian traditional, and Early European song. The result is a completely new set of moving contemporary arrangements of powerful age-old traditional songs.
The three distinctive voices of Jeremy Avis, Sura Susso and Rebecca Askew soar in harmony together with West African kora, acoustic guitars and the virtuoso double bass playing of Davide Mantovani to explore stories of lost love, magic and journeying common to their diverse vocal traditions.
“Global Sounds” is a collection of world class artists from all musical backgrounds brought together for a festival at two of the best venues in Camden Town – The Forge and Green Note. The artists taking part hail from all over the Globe – the UK, Colombia, Poland, Gambia, Cuba, Venezuela and the United States of America. The musical scope of their performances will be even wider.
Global Sounds is curated by Magnus Mehta.

Korasong Radio formed in 2008, joyfully exploring the textures and grooves created when West African Kora mbalax rhythms met with powerful voices and eclectic vocal harmonies. They have taken their music and songs on tour throughout the UK and as far afield as Montreal Jazz festival in Canada and Botswana In Southern Africa.
The band comprises four superb and seasoned musical travellers: Jeremy Avis and Rebecca Askew (vocalists and songwriters from acapella super-group, The Shout) Surahata Susso (Kora-player, vocalist and calabash virtuoso from the Seckou Keita quartet) and legendary double bass player Davide Mantovani.
Having been compared to a world music version of Fleet Foxes or Crosby, Still and Nash their sound is nevertheless assuredly their own and their live performances are dynamic, heartwarming and unforgettable experiences.
