Circle of Sound
Tuesday 22 May @ The Forge, London
Circle of Sound – Unplugged
While city-hopping on the ‘Circle of Sound’ international tour, Bernhard Schimpelsberger (Drums & Perc) and Soumik Datta (Sarod) take an evening out to lower the volume and take a step closer to the audience. In an unplugged setting, the duet that have played with Nitin Sawhney, Akram Khan, Talvin Singh to name but a few collaborations, will bring together hypnotic Indian music, fiery improvisations, original melodies and more. Catch the ‘Circle of Sound’ team for an up and close ‘zoom in’ encounter. Pioneering a new wave of contemporary music, this is an unmissable one off date on the Album Launch Tour 2012.

Soumik Datta is a tourchbearer of the fretless Indian lute: Sarod/ Classically trained by the legendary Buddhadev DasGupta, he later graduated as an MMus composer from Trinity College of Music.
An Alchemy artist in residence at the Southbank Centre, the ‘British Sarod maestro’ (Time Out) has played internationally and collaborated with Tavin Singh, Akram Khan, Nitin Sawhney, Bill Bailey, Jay-Z and Beyonce Knowles.
Austrian-born percussionist Bernhard Schimpelsberger (aka Taalis) plays the Western drum kit like a table virtuoso and seemlessly blends Indian and Western rhythms into a unique drumming style. Having studied with Tablamaster Pt. Suresh Talwalkar and percussionist legend Trilok Gurtu he is a rhythm visionary constantly pushing the boundaries between tradition and progress. Bernhard’s organic grooves and rhythms have laid the foundation for Nitin Sawhney, Talvin Singh, Akram Khan and Susheela Raman’s music.
