Film Screening08 July 2010
11th Hour
Leonardo DiCaprio's “The 11th Hour” is a feature length documentary concerning the environmental crises caused by human actions and their impact on the planet. "The 11th Hour" documents the cumulative impact of these actions upon the planet's life systems and calls for restorative action through a reshaping of human activity. With the help of over fifty of the world's most prominent thinkers and activists, including reformer Mikhail Gorbachev, physicist Stephen Hawking, and Nobel Prize winner Wangari Maathai, “The 11thHour" documents the grave problems facing the planet's life systems. Global warming, deforestation, mass species extinction, and depletion of the oceans' habitats are all addressed, and their causes rooted in human activity. The combination of these crises call into question the very future not of the planet, but of humanity.

Live on Delancey Street!24 July 2010
Acer Maple and Sophie Hiller
Acer Maple is a new folk-soul project from Dave Austin and Danny Fisher. Their debut ep -"Early" features deeply evocative song writing set against rich harmony and is informed by the knowledge that, sometimes, the hardest grooves don't shout too loud. Collaborators in various contexts for over 15 years, writer-producers Danny and Dave resolved in the spring of 2009 to record some of their recent songs in a fully acoustic format and finally answer some of the creative urges that had been nudging at them for ages. The aim - to meld their unshakeable love of jazz groove and harmony with the tender, country-tinged yearnings of two sentimentalists who know they're really too old for dreaming, but that music is still the best way to express love. The result, the EP "Early" is now complete and features six finely crafted songs, exquisitely performed by the wonderful Sharlene Hector and underpinned by the titanic skills and delicate sensitivity of Richard Spaven (drums), Neville Malcolm (bass) and Chris Eldred (keys).
They will appear at the forge on 24 July supported by the beautiful and soulful Sophie Hiller. Miss it and you'll miss out.
